After losing to Canada in their first game and seeming pretty meh against Germany, the Americans have a solid game.
The United States faced off against the Russians on Sunday. With the Russians coming off a huge victory over Canada they were expected to come out guns blazing against the Americans. The teams exchanged chances until finally Arthur Kaliyev broke the stalemate in the 2nd. Following up was Nick “the 6 second man” Robertson quickly in succession. Then after an awful goal on Miftahkov by Kaliyev, Askarov came into the game with the Russians looking for life.
The Russians finally scored on the powerplay with a bomb from the point by Romanov making the game close. But it didn’t matter as Spencer Knight was prepared for the load as he allowed 1 goal on 26 shots. He was definitely impressive and showed his prowess as a top goalie. Zegras kept his scoring streak up with his 6th assist of the tournament. Wahlstrom has 4 points in three games and is seemingly coming to life. Caufield still seems to be an invisible player.
This was a statement win for the States, taking over first place in group B also known as the group of Death. It was definitely an impressive game to see the American taming the Russians after the game they put up against Canada. I expect the US to be in good shape with Knight at the helm and Zegras, Pinto, and Robertson leading the way up front. The defence is still a question mark, but for the time being Knight can calm that storm.
The US plays their next game against the Czech Republic Monday. Expect the Czechs to come out flying as they lost a shocker to Germany
