When the Tennessee Titans tied the game at 24 on a Cameron Batson 2-yard touchdown reception from Ryan Tannehill with less than a minute remaining in regulation, it appeared as if the New York Jets were going to invent another way to lose a football game.
Zach Wilson hit some big plays on New York’s only drive-in overtime. It led to a go-ahead 22-yard field goal by Matt Ammendola. Tennessee had opportunities to win the game but they couldn’t convert. They had to settle for a Randy Bullock 49-yard field goal with less than 25 seconds remaining in overtime and he missed. The New York Jets won its first game of the season over the Tennessee Titans by a final score of 27-24.
He took some big shots in the second half and they trailed 9-7 at halftime. He finished the game with 21-of-34 passes completed with 297 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
Zach Wilson threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Jamison Crowder in the fourth quarter. Zach Wilson also threw a 53-yard touchdown pass to Corey Davis in the fourth quarter for the New York Jets. Crowder caught seven passes for 61 yards receiving and a touchdown.
Davis caught four passes for 111 yards receiving and a touchdown. This was his first game against his former team. I guess you could call it a revenge game for him. The Tennessee Titans didn’t even offer him a contract extension last offseason.
The other New York touchdown in this game came in the second quarter (trailed 9-0 beforehand) on a 2-yard rush by Michael Carter. Carter finished the game with 38 yards rushing on 13 carries and a touchdown.
Keelan Cole caught three passes for 92 yards receiving for the New York Jets.
The only other Tennessee Titans touchdown in this football game came in the fourth quarter on a Derrick Henry 1-yard rush. (Ryan Tannehill 2-point conversion pass to MyCole Pruitt). Henry finished the game with 157 yards rushing on 33 carries and a touchdown. He had a chance in overtime to score a touchdown, but he was tripped up a couple of times on various plays. Derrick Henry also caught two passes for 20 yards receiving.
Ryan Tannehill completed 30-of-49 passes for 298 yards and one touchdown.
He didn’t have his top two wide receivers today in A.J. Brown and Julio Jones due to hamstring injuries. That hurt Tennessee big time. Jeremy McNichols is Tennessee’s second running back on the depth chart. He caught eight passes for 74 yards receiving.
Chester Rodgers caught five passes for 63 yards receiving.
Josh Reynolds caught six passes for 59 yards receiving.
This was an extremely bad loss for Mike Vrabel and the Tennessee Titans.
This was a very good win for Robert Saleh and the New York Jets. It was Saleh’s first win as an NFL head coach.
The Tennessee Titans (2-2) will be on the road next Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars (0-4).
The New York Jets (1-3) will be the road team next Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons (1-3) in London.
