Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov was a restricted free agent of Thursday. He is 22 years old and was drafted seventh overall for this franchise back in 2015. Provorov officially signed a six-year deal worth $6.75 million each season on Friday with Philadelphia.
He had a down year last season with Dave Hakstol as the head coach and Scott Gordon took over as the interim in December. Hakstol was the coach from May 18, 2015 to December 17, 2018. Alain Vigneault is the new head coach for this hockey team and hopefully Ivan Provorov has a bounce back season because of it.
In 82 games played last season, he scored seven goals and recorded 19 assists. His plus/minus was -16. In 246 career games, Provorov has scored 30 goals and recorded 67 assists. His plus/minus was -6.
It will be interesting to see if he finally has a breakout season. Philadelphia Flyers fans are complaining about this contract. If he doesn't perform, then they could probably trade him later on his career.
This team will have high expectations this season. Ivan Provorov has been playing on the first pairing a lot on the defensive unit. He has a lot of potential to be one of the best young defenseman in the NHL and Provorov could win a Norris Trophy (Best NHL Defenseman) one day.
