The New England Patriots embarrassed the Miami Dolphins on the road in Week 2 on the road by a score of 49-0. In Week 17, it turned out to be a lot different.

With a win, New England would be the number two seed in the AFC. With a loss and a Kansas City Chiefs win, they would drop to the three seed in the AFC.

After the Patriots took a 24-20 lead with 3:53 remaining in regulation on a 13-yard touchdown pass by Tom Brady to James White, it appeared as if Miami was toast. However, with 24 seconds remaining in regulation, Ryan Fitzpatrick threw the game-winning 5-yard touchdown pass to Mike Gesicki and the Dolphins pulled off one of the biggest upsets in a 27-24 win over New England.

Fitzpatrick completed 28-of-41 passes for 320 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 15 yards on five carries and a score.

Gesicki caught four passes for 34 yards receiving and a touchdown.

DeVante Parker had Stephon Gilmore on skates all afternoon long. Parker finished the game with eight receptions for 137 yards receiving.

Albert Wilson caught five passes for 59 yards receiving. He also completed a pass for 20 yards in this game as well.

The leading rusher in this game for Miami was Patrick Laird with 21 yards rushing on 11 carries. He also caught four passes for 48 yards receiving.

Isaiah Ford rushed for 11 yards on one carry. He also caught seven passes for 54 yards receiving.

With the Dolphins leading 3-0 in the second-quarter, Tom Brady was picked off by Eric Rowe and he returned it 35 yards for a touchdown.

With the New England Patriots trailing 10-3 in the second-quarter, Sony Michel scored on a 4-yard touchdown run. Michel rushed for 74 yards on 18 carries and a score.

With the game tied at 10 in the third-quarter, Ryan Fitzpatrick scored on a 2-yard touchdown run for Miami.

On the ensuing drive for New England, he threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Elandon Roberts. That was his only reception in the game. Brady completed 16-of-29 passes for 221 yards two touchdowns and one interception.

Phillip Dorsett was the leading receiver in this game with one reception for 50 yards receiving.

Mohamed Sanu caught three passes for 35 yards receiving.

James White caught three passes for 33 yards receiving and a touchdown. He also rushed for four yards on two carries.

N'Keal Harry caught three passes for 29 yards receiving.

Julian Edelman had a shoulder issue heading into this game for the Patriots. He also caught three passes for 26 yards receiving.

The Miami Dolphins (5-11) season is complete. Head Coach Brian Flores has developed a solid culture in Miami in his first season after it looked like they were going to go 0-16 this season early on.

The New England Patriots (12-4) will host either the Tennessee Titans (8-7), the Pittsburgh Steelers (8-7), or the Oakland Raiders (7-8) on Wild Card Weekend next week.

The last time New England played on Wild Card Weekend was a decade ago and they lost to the Baltimore Ravens 33-14 in that one.

The reason why the Patriots are playing on Wild Card Weekend this year is because they lost today and the Kansas City Chiefs (12-4) took down the Los Angeles Chargers (5-11) by a score of 31-21.

New England doesn't have much success in reaching the Super Bowl when they aren't a Top 2 seed. It will be interesting to see what happens now considering the fact that they are the defending Super Bowl Champions.
