The Daniel Jones era in New York might be beginning sooner than a lot of people have anticipated. With Eli Manning being horrendous once again for the Giants in a 28-14 loss at home on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, New York has dropped to 0-2 in the first two games for the sixth time in seven seasons.
A lot of fans and media members thought Head Coach Pat Shurmur was going to pull Manning in favor Jones at halftime. Instead, Eli Manning played the full game. In his first two games this season, he has completed 56-of-89 passes for 556 yards two touchdowns and two interceptions. Manning has also rushed for right yards on two carries.
When Shurmur met with the media on Monday, he did not commit to Manning as the starting quarterback for Week 3 on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road. Eli Manning is 116-116 in his career. If New York cared about his winning legacy. they would probably yank him as the starter.
The official announcement will be made at practice on Wednesday in who’s starting Week 3. The whole team is in shambles right now, but this team is in a rebuilding phase. A lot of rookies are playing anyways and they are not going to make the playoffs. There is nothing to lose at this point by starting Daniel Jones.
He was the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Duke University. Jones played very well in training camp and in the preseason. A lot of people know he is ready to be the starting quarterback and it appears as if the future is now.
Daniel Jones will put some energy into the team and also the fan base. It isn’t a matter of if they start him at this point, it is a matter of when.
Fans are sick and tired of losing and they want a different result. Eli Manning had his run with this team and he also helped them win two Super Bowls, but the future is now for the New York Giants.
