Never in doubt.
Canada cruised to a 16-2 win over Germany in their tournament opener on Boxing Day.
Dylan Cozens had a hat trick and three assists to lead the way for the red and white. Surprisingly, Devon Levi was tested a couple of times by Germans top guns Stutzle and Peterka, but he was up to the challenge all but once when Bowen Byram deflected one into his own net.
Deutschland only had 14 skaters due to COVID, but they might have played without a goalie at some points. Terrible goals against really deflated the German team when they had a millimeter of hope.
One of the main story lines leaving this one is Canada’s Braden Schneider, who got a game misconduct for an illegal check to head. He’s likely to get a one game suspension by iihf “standards”.
Canada looked great no doubt, by the Germans were tired and the refs weren’t doing them any favours.
Slovakia is next up and the hometown boys could put up 16 once again this afternoon.
Puck drops at 4pm in Edmonton.
