The NFL legal tampering period has started, but it's a trade in the league that got everyones attention. Bill O'Brien has traded away his star WR DeAndre Hopkins for the Cardinals David Johnson.
Yes, you read that right. A top 3 WR for an all but washed up RB.
Bill O'Brien's work from home stint off to a bad start.
Seriously, what is O'Briens end game?? Is he looking to get fired??? I'm sure he will get his wish by the end of next season if that's the case. You have a young rising star at QB in DeShaun Watson, a solid defense, and before the trade a top duo of wideouts in Hopkins and Fuller. The passing game was the offensive strength, and now it becomes middle of the road like the run game. No offense to David Johnson, but gone are the glory days of 2016. He now moves into a new system and is not going to be getting any help from his offensive line.
Really though, still can't figure this trade out.
David Johnson for DeAndre Hopkins would get vetoed in most fantasy leagues with the team managers barred for life.
The Cardinals get an elite WR that takes over the No. 1 from a future Hall of Famer, Larry Fitzgerald, who is now the No.2 . Kyler Murray will easily have a top pass game and running game this upcoming season. They will quickly go from a below average team to a group that can sneakily get that new 7th seed in the playoffs.
In the end, this will go down as a terrible move by the Texans. On top of giving up one of the top 3 wideouts in the game, you managed to take on the entire terrible salary of an aging RB, and oh yeah, recieve no 1st round pick. Even if the rumors of Hopkins wanting a new deal are true, who cares, pay the man and be set with an elite talent at a skill position for years to come. Instead, the offense takes a blow, which will lead to a step back in development for Watson, and an all but likely firing of O'Brien. Bill used all 9 lives to keep his job in Houston over the past few seasons, I think his time will finally be up.
