The Washington Redskins Are Making the Right Move by sitting Dwayne Haskins Still

2019 NFL Draft Hats from New Era
A lot of people want to see rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins take the field already for the Washington Redskins, but they are going to have to wait to see him play. Haskins was the 15th overall pick in the NFL Draft in 2019.

A lot of people thought he was going to be drafted by the New York Giants at number six, but it happened to be quarterback Daniel Jones out of Duke University instead. Jones’s performance this past Sunday on the road in a 32-31 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is one of the reasons why people want to see Dwayne Haskins.

After Washington (0-3) lost to the Chicago Bears (3-0) 31-15 at home on Monday night football, Head Coach Jay Gruden was asked if he was going to switch quarterbacks and Gruden told them no.

Case Keenum will be the starter on the road against the New York Giants (1-2) on Sunday. Keenum hasn’t been that bad this season. He has completed 69.4 percent of his passes for 933 yards seven touchdowns and three interceptions.

Colt McCoy was supposed to be the starting quarterback this season because he knew Gruden’s system until McCoy got hurt. Even if Case Keenum was yanked, I don’t think Jon Gruden would play Dwayne Haskins anyways.

The offensive line is horrendous and Dwayne Haskins wouldn’t have any support by the rushing attack. For any one questioning Jay Gruden, he knows his roster better than all of us and this was the right move on his part. Whether we all agree with it or not is another story.

The leading rusher for this team so far this season is Adrian Peterson with 62 yards on the ground. Derius Guice got hurt in Week 1 with a knee injury and Chris Thompson Jr. is more of a pass catcher out of the backfield than an actual running back.

If Gruden does get fired at some point, I would maybe expect Offensive Coordinator Kevin O’Connell to take over as the interim head coach.

I would not be surprised if Dwayne Haskins sat the whole season. Some of the key offensive coordinators this team has lost in the pass is Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, and Matt LaFleur. All three of those guys are now 3-0 this season with their respective teams.

The Washington Redskins franchise is a mess and they have only won 39 percent of games when Bruce Allen has been the Team President. Allen needs to be fired as well whenever Washington decides to move on from Jay Gruden. I think Gruden will get another coaching job somewhere.

They only made the playoffs once back in 2015. The Redskins should have made it to the playoffs the next season but they lost to the New York Giants at home in the final game of the regular season.

It is going to be interesting to see what happens if Washington continues to go downhill. I don’t Haskins would see the field until after the Week 10 bye. I think his first NFL game could be in Week 11 at home against the New York Jets (0-3). As of right now, he is the scout team quarterback at practice.

There is also another indicator that Dwayne Haskins is not ready to play. He will get his chance eventually.
