This usually happens in the offseason and is less irritating, but since the media has dubbed USC a crown jewel job and it is vacant, they are naming coaches who are currently employed as the frontrunner as the next USC coach. Since Pete Carroll's last season in 2009, they have burned through Lane Kiffin, Ed Orgeron, Clay Helton, Steve Sarkisian, and then back to Clay Helton. Desperate to recapture the magic of the Pete Carroll era, coaches who seem happy are being implicated, and those coaches have no idea why.
First came Urban Meyer, who has coached exactly one regular-season game for Jacksonville and now has to crush rumors in a press conference. In the media's defense, they tried to get him hired at USC like 2 days after he left Ohio State. Meyer said there's "no chance" he will take the USC job, which sparked some people to have some fun with that statement.

The really odd part of all of this is hearing people implicate coaches who are currently coaching better teams. Luke Fickel and James Franklin currently have Top-10 teams and the media is practically begging them to leave their great gig to go get fired at USC in 3 years.
Habitual "I have an unnamed source and the person they speak about will be completely unaware of their own feelings", Dan Patrick, claims he has another mysterious source.

Of course, Franklin didn't kill the rumor outright, but he had a very logical reason why.
Franklin said, "But I've also found and tracked this over time that, really no matter what you say, people aren’t happy with (it). So I decided I'm going to handle this internally. I talked to our team. It happens every single year. I’m not worried about distractions in the media and with the fans, I’m worried about my team."

I guess being an author at 12oz Sports means I am the media, so it is my obligation to name the next coach. "Sources" tell me the next USC coach will be Coastal Carolina's Jamey Chadwell.
