The Baltimore Ravens Are a Legit AFC Threat

Glenn Kaplan

The Baltimore Ravens were struggling to beat opponents throughout the first five weeks of the regular season. However, Baltimore put the rest of the NFL on notice with a dominating 34-6 win over the Los Angeles Chargers at home.

Forget all of the noise about needing a miracle 66-yard field goal by Justin Tucker to beat the Detroit Lions (0-6) and also needing a LaMarevlous comeback against the Indianapolis Colts (2-4) last Monday night. The Baltimore Ravens just put the rest of the AFC and the NFL on notice with this convincing victory.

Lamar Jackson had a good enough game against a very good Chargers defense. He completed 19-of-27 passes for 167 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Jackson rushed for 51 yards on eight carries.

However, the biggest story in this game was the Baltimore Ravens defense shutting down Justin Herbert. Herbert completed 22-of-39 passes for 195 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also rushed for 12 yards on two carries.

The Ravens defense has been having its fair share of problems this season, but Baltimore deserves a ton of credit for shutting down a top offense.

It is quite possible that the Chargers were never ready for this football game because it was a 10 a.m. PT start on the west coast. Playing at 1 p.m. ET on the east coast for these teams is usually never easy, but it is the nature of the NFL sometimes.

With this win for Baltimore, they show that they are potentially the biggest threat to the Buffalo Bills (4-1) in the AFC. Do we all forget last season that the Baltimore Ravens were only trailing 10-3 in the AFC Divisional Round on the road against the Buffalo Bills before Lamar Jackson threw the game-changing pick-six? Buffalo and Baltimore would be a fascinating playoff matchup!

Also, everyone needs to forget about the Kansas City Chiefs (3-3) for the moment and the Baltimore Ravens beat them on Sunday night football at home back in Week 2.

The Baltimore Ravens are one of the best teams in the NFL because they are well-coached by John Harbaugh and other coaches on his staff, they scout and develop players really well, and play for one another with an established winning culture here.

At the current moment, Baltimore is at the top of the AFC North Standings. First place will be on the line next Sunday when the Baltimore Ravens (5-1) host the Cincinnati Bengals (4-2).

The Los Angeles Chargers (4-2) will be on a bye week next. They will host the New England Patriots (2-4) on Sunday, October 31st.
