Steelers Win Defensive Struggle Against Rams

2019 NFL Draft Hats from New EraThe Los Angeles Rams and the Pittsburgh Steelers had sloppy field positions all game long. The defense was story in this game.

Minkah Fitzpatrick picked off Jared Goff with 30 seconds remaining in the game and Pittsburgh upset Los Angeles by a score of 17-12.

Fitzpatrick is single handedly making this defense into an elite defense. Without him, this defense wouldn’t be anything.

Speaking of defense, Dante Fowler recovered a fumble for the Rams and scored on a 26-yard touchdown early in the game.

Later in the first-quarter, Mason Rudolph threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to James Washington for the Steelers.

Rudolph completed 22-of-38 passes for 242 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for -1 yards on two carries.

Washington caught six passes for 90 yards and a touchdown.

Dionate Johnson caught six passes for 64 yards receiving.

Juju Smith-Schuster was held in check with four receptions for 64 yards receiving.

Jaylen Samuels was the leading rusher in this game for Pittsburgh with 29 yards on 14 carries. Samuels caught three passes for 11 yards receiving.

James Conner did not play in this game again with a shoulder injury.

Benny Snell Jr. missed the game with a knee injury as well for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In the second-quarter, Javon Hargrave strip sacked Jared Goff and Minkah Fitzpatrick returned it for a 43-yard touchdown.

With Los Angeles trailing 14-10 in the fourth-quarter, Aaron Donald and Clay Matthews each recorded a half sack on Mason Rudolph and they recorded a safety in the end zone, to make it 14-12.

Chris Boswell kicked a 37-yard field goal for the Pittsburgh Steelers to make it 17-12 later in the fourth.

Jared Goff struggled in this game for the Los Angeles Rams. He completed 22-of-41 for 243 yards and two interceptions. Goff didn’t rush for any yards on one attempt.

Johnny Hekker also attempted a pass in the game and he was picked off.

Blake Bortles also had to appear in the game for a snap for Los Angeles. He rushed for one yard on one carry.

Todd Gurley was the leading rusher for the Rams with 73 yards on 12 carries. He was held without a catch.

Robert Woods was the leading receiver in this game with seven receptions for 95 yards receiving.

Gerald Everett caught eight passes for 67 yards receiving.

Cooper Kupp was held without a catch in this game.

Josh Reynolds stepped in nicely for Brandin Cooks because Cooks missed this game due to a concussion. Reynolds caught three passes for 49 yards receiving.

Tyler Highbee caught three passes for 22 yards receiving and Johnny Mundt caught one pass for nine yards receiving.

The Los Angeles Rams are heading in the wrong direction after the bye week and the Pittsburgh Steelers are on a four-game winning streak.

The playoff races in the NFC and the AFC have gotten more interesting after this game. Pittsburgh, the Oakland Raiders, and the Indianapolis Colts are now 5-4.

Los Angeles (5-4) will host the Chicago Bears (4-5) next Sunday night.

Pittsburgh (5-4) will go on the road and face the Cleveland Browns (3-6) on Thursday night.
