Opening Day
It’s the weirdest and craziest opening day
ever. The season has been reduced to 60
games from the usual 162 after a global
pandemic put everything non-essential on
pause.
Now we are here in the dog days of July
the time of the year where the top teams
start making their run to the postseason
and where bad teams are shipping off top
talent and shedding cap space to give
their prospects a chance at the Show.
Yep! the 2020 season will start on
Thursday July 23rd with the Los Angeles
Dodgers facing off against their arch
rivals the San Fransico Giants.
Clayton Kershaw will regular opening day
start that has became the norm over the
past decade against a familiar foe. It’s
been 50/50 for the LA Dodgers Ace but
lately he has been pretty dominant
against their bitter rivals.
The Lineup for the LA Dodgers has been
upgraded with former AL MVP Mookie
Betts being acquired in the winter and just
signing a monster deal which is 12 years;
$360 Million.
Then there is Cody Bellinger who is
becoming the superstar the organization
envisioned and now in his 4th season he is
ready to deliver the elusive World Series
Trophy that has eluded the Team twice in
the last 3 years.
Corey Seager is now healthy and is
showing signs of the All-Star he was back
in 2017 when the Dodgers made their
World Series run in a season where he
was awarded the Silver Slugger award as
the top hitting ShortStop in the League.
The opening day game will have a
different feel the Dodgers will infuse crowd
noise and cutouts of die hard fans and LA
Celebrities. The game will be tough due to
both teams still getting used to being
back playing full time. I expect a pitchers
duel In this game and whole lot of drama
in the late innings. Expect another
opening day nail biter from the oldest
rivalry in the National League.
