New York Giants Mock Draft

Glenn Kaplan

The New York Giants are currently 4-8 and in last place in the NFC East. By the time the end of the regular season rolls around, everyone is probably going to be fired and there are going to be a lot of new faces at new positions in 2022. As of right now, New York will own 11 picks in the 2022 NFL Draft and they are potentially going to get some more with trades.

If the season ended today, they would have the fifth overall pick and the seventh overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Giants would have two first-round picks because they also own the Chicago Bears’ first-round pick in the Justin Fields trade from the 2021 NFL Draft. That trade was made by general manager Dave Gettleman. There should be an outsider and a new general manager with absolutely no ties to the New York Giants organization.

They need to also fire Joe Judge, his coaching staff, Chris Mara, the entire college scouting department, and others. Owner John Mara and also Steve Tisch need to start entirely over.

Daniel Jones is probably out for the season with a neck injury and he is probably not going to be the New York Giants quarterback in 2022. Jacob Fromm is going to be the quarterback most likely the last five games of the regular season. This team is in tank mode. Mike Glennon also suffered a concussion in a 20-9 loss against the Miami Dolphins this past Sunday.

Saquon Barkley, Logan Ryan, Kenny Golladay, and James Bradberry IV could potentially be traded to make room for cap space. They could potentially add another 4-5 draft picks alone in trades for those players and maybe even Daniel Jones.

What should the New York Giants do with the fifth and seventh overall picks right now?

Well, they probably should go with the best players available. They should not reach on a quarterback. New York should take the best offensive lineman available and also the best defensive player available.

This is how the first four picks will be right now if the season ended today:

1. Detroit Lions- Aidan Hutchinson, EDGE, Michigan.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars- Evan Neal, OT, Alabama.
3. Houston Texans- Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss.
4. New York Jets- Kayvon Thibodeaux, EDGE, Oregon.

With the fifth pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the New York Giants select: Tyler Linderbaum, OL, Iowa. Linderbaum would be the starting center for the New York Giants for the next decade. He would fix the interior of this offensive line immediately. The only true offensive lineman they have is left tackle Andrew Thomas, who was selected fourth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft out of the University of Georgia.

6. New York Jets- Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame.

With the seventh pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the New York Giants select George Karlaftis, EDGE, Purdue. The New York Giants lack pass rushers and they have struggled to get to the quarterback lately. He is 6’4″ and weighs 275 lbs. Karlaftis in 12 games recorded 39 tackles, 10.0 of them were for a loss, four pass deflections, two fumble recoveries, one defensive touchdown, and two forced fumbles.

This is the kind of player the New York Giants desperately need. They need a lot of work on both the offensive line and the defensive line. New York needs to build this football team from the inside out. The Giants have not won a playoff game since Super Bowl XLVI against the New England Patriots which was over a decade ago.

The New York Giants have made it to the playoffs only once in 2016 and they lost to the Green Bay Packers. It has been dark days for New York football. With this mock draft for the New York Giants, maybe it will be better days ahead for them.
