2019 NFL Draft Hats from New Era

Defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick did not want to play for the Miami Dolphins any longer after they lost in Week 1 at home against the Baltimore Ravens 59-10 and in Week 2 at home against the New England Patriots 44-0. Fitzpatrick was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 2020 first-round pick, a fifth-round pick 2020, and a sixth-round pick in 2021, according to league sources that told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

It interesting that Pittsburgh made this move the same day after quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was ruled out for the season with an elbow injury and it will require surgery. This trade shows that the Steelers still believe within that they can get the job done.

Mason Rudolph will be the quarterback moving forward and the future might even be here for him.

Speaking of the future, Pittsburgh is taking a risk with this trade because if they continue to lose games, this pick could potentially be a Top 5 or a Top 10 pick. The Pittsburgh Steelers are 0-2 this season and they will play on the road in Week 3 against the 2-0 San Francisco 49ers.

Minkah Fitzpatrick is only 22 years old and he was the 11th pick in the NFL Draft in 2018. In his rookie season, Fitzpatrick recorded 80 tackles and two of them were a tackle for loss. He also two interceptions, one defensive touchdown, and nine pass deflections.

In two games so far this season with Miami, Minkah Fitzpatrick has forced one fumble and also has recovered one fumble. He also has recorded 11 tackles.

Fitzpatrick is going to start right away in this secondary. It will be interesting to see how much better the Pittsburgh Steelers will look on defense this season. A change of scenery will be a good thing for Minkah Fitzpatrick even though he was only a rookie last season.

Fitzpatrick still has a ton of potential and he still has two more years on his contract plus an option for the 2022 season.

This was a good trade for both teams. The Miami Dolphins now have three first-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft. Miami has their own, they have the Houston Texans first-round pick, and they now have the Pittsburgh Steelers first-round pick.

The New York Giants and the Oakland Raiders had three picks in the first-round in the 2019 NFL Draft. Miami knows they are in a rebuild mode and they need as many picks as possible.

As for the Pittsburgh Steelers, they are in win now mode. The Steelers don't believe in rebuilding much and they have not given up on the season just yet. Maybe Minkah Fitzpatrick will give this defense a spark it desperately needs and it might make this defense tougher to play against.

Time will only tell if this trade was worth it for them or not.
