An annual tennis tournament, considered one of the main stops for many pros, has cancelled their event for 2020 while considering a later date this year. The 2020 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California was forced to cancel their tournament, that was first played in 1987, when the Riverside County public health department declared a public health emergency in the Coachella Valley due to a confirmed case of coronavirus, as reported yesterday.

Here's the official statement from the organizers:

For comparison, the new coronavirus has led to more than 100,000 illnesses and more than 3,000 deaths worldwide. But that's nothing compared with the flu, also called influenza. In the U.S. alone, the flu has caused an estimated 32 million illnesses, 310,000 hospitalizations and 18,000 deaths this season, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
