This is called chalk, which is not chaos, but it is worth a look. As some have pointed out, the College Football Playoff bylaws state that a team may drop because of missing players, or coaches (see below, reference is collegefootballplayoff.com, 2021). Which would explain why Notre Dame may get snubbed. In this case, I predict it will be #1 Georgia v #4 Cincinnati and #2 Michigan v #3 Oklahoma State in the semi-finals.
Georgia wins, Michigan loses, Bama loses, Cincinnati wins, Oklahoma State loses:
Here comes chaos. Michigan is favored by 10.5, however, early in the season Iowa looked as good as anyone and was generating turnovers fast and furious. If you also look at common opponents, this should be an even matchup, but Michigan may be bringing some "we beat Ohio" swag to the dome. This outcome (Michigan losing), however, will generate a #1 Georgia v #4 Ohio State and #2 Bama v #3 Cincinnati. Yes, I think since Brian Kelly bolted, Ohio State will get the nod and piss off the entire football world.
Georgia wins, Michigan wins, Bama loses, Cincinnati loses, Oklahoma State loses:
Total chaos, earth-shaking. This would also result in an interim coach calling the shots in a playoff game, a first and maybe last. #1 Georgia v #4 Ohio State and #2 Michigan v #3 Notre Dame
Georgia loses, Michigan wins, Bama wins, Cincinnati wins, Oklahoma State wins:
Sorry Cowboys, this scenario keeps Georgia in the playoffs. #1 Bama v #4 Cincinnati and #2 Michigan v #3 Georgia
Georgia loses, Michigan loses, Bama wins, Cincinnati loses, Oklahoma State wins:
Oh boy, the many possibilities and this one is tough to predict. #1 Bama v #4 Ohio State and #2 Oklahoma State v #3 Georgia
The list goes on and on and on...who knows what will happen but we can honestly say the conference title games are definitely playoffs games. Just not for Iowa, Houston, and Baylor.
