Has the Seattle Seahawks Championship Window Closed?

Glenn Kaplan

The Seattle Seahawks have not appeared to a Super Bowl since Super Bowl XLIX against the New England Patriots. Seattle has been hoping to get back to another one but early on in the 2021 season, there are major concerns for the Seattle Seahawks. They lost 26-17 at home on Thursday night against the Los Angeles Rams.

Seattle lost Russell Wilson in the second half due to a finger injury and he did not return. Geno Smith came in and replaced him. Smith led them to a touchdown drive, but if he has to start several games for Seattle, they are in big-time trouble. The Seahawks defense is in shambles, to begin with.

They may be the fourth-best team in the NFC West at the moment. The Arizona Cardinals (4-0) have Kyler Murray, the Los Angeles Rams have Matthew Stafford, and the San Francisco 49ers now have rookie Trey Lance over Jimmy Garoppolo at the quarterback position.

Russell Wilson and head coach Pete Carroll have had a very interesting relationship on the field and also off the field lately. With everyone getting better in the NFC West, it appears as if Seattle is getting worse. They have by far the worst defense in the NFC West. With being a very tough division as it is, it will be interesting to see if they can respond to adversity or if they will fold like a cheap tent.

The future is looking the opposite but bright right now for Seattle. If Russell Wilson for some reason bolted after this season, it would not be very good. The Seahawks have done a very poor job drafting recently in the first round. The lack of talent they have drafted is finally catching up to them after being too Russell Wilson dependent for the past several years though.

The Seattle Seahawks (2-3) will be on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers (1-3) next Sunday.
The Los Angeles Rams (4-1) will be on the road against the New York Giants (1-3) next Sunday.
