The biggest question mark of the World Juniors…
1. Spencer Knight
This Boston College stud is by far and away the best goalie in the tournament. The Panthers pick has consistently put up ridiculous numbers in college, plus his experience in the tournament last year will give him a clear advantage and if the Americans do well, it will be on his back.
2. Samuel Hlavaj
Experience. This is his third year in the tournament, and with a weak Slovak team, I’m getting Denis Godla vibes here.
3. Yaroslav Askarov
Askarov is a great young goaltender, but Russia plays such a discipline style that if their defence have any breakdowns, I still have some concerns about his game. This isn’t SKA playing against Kunlun anymore…
4. Hugo Alnefelt
These last two are kind of wildcards… Alnefelt might not even be the starter by the end of the tournament, but he’s got the makings to be a classic Swedish tendy who steals a game with his calm and consistent play.
5. Taylor Gauthier
I had to choose a Canadian goalie and as much as I believe Levi could be their guy, Gauthier is going to get the benefit of the doubt due to his prior team Canada experience. The fact that NHL teams keep passing on him gives me trust issues, but lets see what he can do behind this solid red and white squad.
