Eagles Overcome Slow Start Against Redskins

The Philadelphia Eagles trailed 17-0 at home in the second-quarter against the Washington Redskins. They outscored them 32-12 for the rest of the game and Philadelphia took down Washington 32-27.

One of the biggest stories in this game for the Eagles was the connection of Carson Wentz and DeSean Jackson. This was Jackson’s first game back in Philadelphia. He caught eight passes for 154 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Wentz completed 28-of-39 passes for 313 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for five yards on four carries. A lot of people thought that he was never going to wake up in this game but Carson Wentz did.

In the first-quarter, Case Keenum threw a short pass to Vernon Davis and Davis broke tackles and he took it 48 yards for a touchdown. Vernon Davis finished with four receptions for 59 yards receiving and a score.

With Washington up 10-0 in the second-quarter, Keenum threw a 69-yard touchdown pass to rookie Terry McLaurin. McLaurin caught five passes for 125 yards receiving.

The Eagles got on the board in the second-quarter when Carson Wentz threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to DeSean Jackson.

Dustin Hopkins drilled a 48-yard field goal for the Redskins before halftime.

Wentz threw two touchdown passes in the third-quarter to give them a 21-20 lead on a 5-yard pass to Alshon Jeffrey and a 53-yard pass to DeSean Jackson.

Jeffrey caught five passes for 49 yards receiving and a score.

He also had a two-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth-quarter (Darren Sproles 2-point conversion) to give them a 29-20 lead.

Sproles led them in rushing with 47 yards on nine carries. He caught three passes for 16 yards receiving. Jordan Howard made his team debut after being traded from the Chicago Bears this offseason. He rushed for 44 yards on six carries. Howard caught two passes for 11 yards receiving. Miles Sanders also made his NFL debut and he rushed for 25 yards on 11 carries. Sanders caught one pass for two yards receiving.

With the Washington Redskins trailing 32-20 late, Trey Quinn caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Case Keenum. Quinn finished with four receptions for 33 yards receiving and a score. Keenum completed 30-of-44 passes for 380 yards and three touchdowns.

Derius Guice was the leading rusher with 18 yards on 10 carries. He also caught three passes for 20 yards receiving. Adrian Peterson was a healthy scratch in this game.

Washington (0-1) will host the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday. Philadelphia (1-0) will be on the road against the Atlanta Falcons (0-1) next Sunday night.
