Canada’s Captain is leaving the bubble.

After taking an awkward hit in Canada’s lone pre-tournament game against Russia, captain Kirby Dach appeared visibly injured and went straight down the tunnel.

Per TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the captain’s tournament has come to a close and he is expected to miss the start of the NHL season with Chicago.

No official word yet from @HockeyCanada but Kirby Dach is out of the WJC because of the injury suffered yesterday. So Team 🇨🇦 loses its captain. CHI doctors still assessing Dach’s injury but he will be missing NHL time as well.

Now before everyone starts losing their marbles that Chicago loaned Dach for the tournament and now he’s injured, let’s not sit back and think that couldn’t have happened at any time. It’s a fluke injury, it could have happened in training camp, it could have happened playing sewer ball, or even the gold medal game at the World Juniors. Shit happens. It’s hockey.

This does open up a spot for a young Canadian hockey player to be a hero on home soil, which is an exciting thing to think about. No Dach, no problem. Canada still has a great shot at gold.
