College Football Takeaways: Week 4

Week 4 brought a few more surprises, and unfortunately for the BIG10, it is starting to look like a smoke and mirrors conference. Wisconsin got hammered by the Fighting Irish 41-13, Iowa struggled against Colorado State 24-14, and Bowling Green "shocked" the world as a 30+ point dog winning 14-10 over Minnesota, the same Gophers that challenged Ohio State for three quarters in week 1.

Alabama looks like the usual Tide and primed for yet another title, while Florida bounced back nicely for a 24 point win over The Vols. Meanwhile, #23 Auburn, reeling after a tough loss to Penn State, was losing by 12 to Georgia State at the half until rallying to win by 10, resulting in the firing of the WR coach following the game.

For some odd reason, #8 Arkansas @ #2 Georgia is a noon game, while Mississippi State @ #15 Texas A&M (over ranked) is the night game, typically considered the marquee game. Somebody dropped the ball here.

Wake Forest (4-0) is back in the Top-25 despite their best wins being 0-4 Florida State and 2-2 Virginia. Many believe the Demon Deacons could win the conference, but this week take on pesky Lousiville.

Here are the Top-25 Matchups this week:

Looks like my TV room will have several monitors again this week. My upset special this week is Arkansas (+18.5) over Georgia. While the Bulldogs have 3 straight blowout wins, they also needed a defensive score to beat a Clemson team we now know is not elite, and may not be very good, while the Hogs have handily beaten Texas and Texas A&M. At the very least, take Arkansas and the points!

My Playoff Power Rankings (Top-4)

  1. Alabama
  2. Georgia
  3. Penn State
  4. Oregon
