College Football Takeaways: Week 3

Every team can be beaten. Oklahoma, Clemson, and Alabama all had "scares", or at least really close games. It proves that for most weeks, the great and good teams still need to bring it.

Speaking of being ready for every opponent, Ohio State allowed over 500 yards against 0-3 Tulsa. The Buckeyes may be in for a rough road ahead if their defense continues to struggle.

Michigan's hot start may be smoke and mirrors. They've beaten Northern Illinois (1-2), Washington (1-2), and Western Michigan (2-1). That's two MAC schools and a mediocre PAC team. Granted, all those wins were by three touchdowns or more, but let's not crown them a Top-10 team just yet.

Penn State @ Iowa on October 9th looks to be shaping up like a playoff game. Both teams play tough defense and have offenses that can move the ball, however, the Nittany Lions seem to have the more powerful offense to date.

Speaking of Penn State, the referees at that Auburn game should lose pay or games, you should never get the wrong down with all the people in the booth and headsets on all these guys. Shame on them.

Then again, refs in the LSU game spotted the ball on the wrong 45-yard line..

Mike McClure on Twitter: "What a weird night for officials in college football! Penn State forced to kick on 3rd down and now LSU just got the ball at the wrong 45 yard line (hurt them) after video review. / Twitter"

Fresno State is kinda good. They lost to #4 Oregon 31-24 and beat #13 UCLA 40-37 to move to 3-1, look out for the Dawgs!

This week does not appear to have any marquee games, but with all the upsets so far, stay tuned.

My Playoff Power Rankings:

  1. Bama
  2. Georgia
  3. Iowa
  4. Oregon
