The NHL decided the hit by Zdeno Chara on Evander Kane did not violate rule 48 which governs checks to the head and they believe the head is not the main point of contact. 

Chara got Kane up high before the two players dropped gloves in the third period on Tuesday night and threw punches. 

Kane claims it was a classic head shot while Chara was given an elbowing minor and fighting major.
