A win really wasn’t ever in question.
After Nolan Foote got the boot 53 seconds in, Slovakia proved to have little to no offence in a 6-1 loss against Canada.
Team Canada was led up front by captain Barrett Hayton who had two goals and an assist. Alexis Lafreniere had one and one in his return from injury.
Goaltender Joel Hofer, faces 14 shots in the game, half of which he saw in the first five minutes of regulation.
The red and white put 41 shots on net in the contest, with the powerplay connecting twice against the lowly Slovaks.
Up next comes a much greater challenge, as pending Sweden defeating the Czech Republic, Canada would face the winner of USA/Finland in the semifinals. Russia will likely face Sweden in the other semifinal on Saturday.
Discipline will be key for Canada, but when they’re playing with emotion, the energy seems to come naturally.
