We are now closing in on conference preview 8 of 32, the Big East Conference. I will be looking at three players that you need your undivided attention on this College Basketball season and in the future NCAA tournament, the NIT, etc. Enjoy!

Shamorie Ponds,  Guard, St. Johns

  • What an improvement Ponds has had this year from inside the 2 point line. You can argue the competition he’s playing isn’t elite, but 64% is still outstanding against anyone.
  • Is there anyone else in College Basketball that has three 30 point games already this year? I can’t wait to see this kid dominate in Big East play. The Red Storm are nothing to mess with this year!
  • I might as well say it right now, the Red Storm WILL be dancing in the NCAA tournament and Ponds could lead them to at least a Sweet 16. Book it!

Myles Powell, Guard,  Seton Hall

  • Almost a 9 point per game improvement from last year. Had a huge victory against Kentucky a week ago at Madison Square Garden.
  • 56% of his games have gone for at least 20 points this year. Including 40 against Grand Canyon, 30 against Wagner, and my most witnessed game of Powell, 28 against the Kentucky Wildcats. NBA scouts are already paying attention to Powell as he has shown large improvements as the leader of the Pirate this year.
  • I would like to see his 3 point shooting improve once Big East play starts, as he did have a subpar against an average Louisville team where he shot 2/12 from deep.

Sam Hauser, Forward, Marquette

  • Sam is one of the best 3 point shooters in College Basketball and although his percentage numbers are down this year and his shoots are up, he still has time to improve his shot this year.
  • Has improved his 2 point shot thus far this year and it shows as Marquette has played a great Non-Conference schedule. Should see even more improvement once Big East play comes full circle.
  • Only two 20 points games thus far this year. I think they will need to focus on getting Sam more shots as Markus Howard has played reckless this year and is shooting terribly from BOTH the 2 point and 3 point line.
