On Sunday, some of the 12oz Sports crew decided we are adopting Ryan Blaney, NASCAR #12, as the network’s favorite driver. Not only does he don the “12” on his car, but he was also born in Ohio, so this is a natural fit. I apologize to anyone within the 12oz Sports halls if they disagree. The complaint department is in the corner of the room (hint: it is the trash can).
Before we get to the main event, Blaney participated in the Busch Clash on Tuesday, a 35 lap race on the Daytona road course, the same course that Rolex hosted the 24 Hour Race of Daytona just a few weeks earlier.
Here are the highlights (spoiler alert, Blaney led on the last lap before his best friend wrecked him out on the last turn):

Two days later, Blaney was back on the track for Duel 2. This guy is a hard worker, he raced in three different events on Daytona weekend and Thursday night was his chance for revenge from the wreckage on Tuesday’s Clash. Blaney finished 6th after a 9th place pole position and gained 5 points for this effort. Austin Dillon took home the Duel 2 trophy.
Now on to the big race, the Daytona 500. Even though Blaney only finished with 7 points and did not escape the day, some of his finest work happened during the carnage on lap 15, where he avoided disaster and almost snuck through the mass of metal without a scratch.
Try and spot Blaney’s yellow and blue car during the wreck on lap 15, and realize this is an extremely tough thing to do with this type of race car…
