We Got Em.

The BSR boys are coming in hot on hockey this week.

Last night was the rematch of the rematch of the rematch between the US and Canada for Olympic gold.  These teams meet in championship games about as frequently as Marvel releases new movies. USA has won the last 4 World Championships, but hasn’t been able to convert that success over to the Olympics. In Sochi, Canada erased a 2 goal 3rd period deficit in the final minutes and won in overtime. After losing again to team Canada in pool play, the US needed redemption.

I’m not going to pretend like I live and breathe international women’s hockey, but holy shit, this team is fun to watch.

Look at this goal:

@TeamUSA STRIKES FIRST! A beautiful redirect by @HilaryKnight puts the @usahockey women up 1-0 in the gold medal game! #WinterOlympics https://t.co/R7Kzi4a9HS https://t.co/kxkPJdlIEL

Hilary Knight parks herself in front of the crease and banks one home to go ahead. It perpetually baffles me how hockey players have the wherewithal to put a stickblade on a puck moving 75+ miles an hour.

Canada claps back with a couple of goals and maintains a 2-1 lead until the 14 minute mark in the 3rd period. Then this happens:

TIE GAME! A nice save leads to a breakaway goal by @moniquelam7 to knot @TeamUSA @usahockey women and Canada at 2 late in the third! #WinterOlympics https://t.co/R7Kzi4a9HS https://t.co/1SG7VQfW68

Monique Lamoureux-Morando is left all alone in the neutral zone, carries it in, and fucking rips one high-glove side. Tie game.

Overtime is nuts. A lot of back and forth. A lot of shots. The US takes a bad penalty and is shorthanded for the remaining 95 seconds. They find a way to kill it and we’re headed to a shootout.

Both teams trade punches in the opening rounds of the shootout. We’re tied at 2-2.

Here comes Jocelyn Lamoureux:

FILTHY. That would’ve embarrassed Braden Holtby. Again. My goodness.

20 year old goalie Maddie Rooney blanks Canada’s Meghan Agosta, the second leading goal scorer in Olympic history, to seal it. THE US WINS GOLD. The heartbreak from Sochi is erased. 20 years of Olympic frustration and losses to the Neighbors from the North are erased. On what was arguably the most exciting night of the 2018 Games, the US has found redemption.

Oh, and the US Men’s Curling team defeated Canada.

We got em.

Fuck you, Canada.
